Hello! Do you know of a special student in high school, college, or from an independent choir who is poised to make an impact in the music world with songwriting? I have the pleasure of working with aspiring young composers at the Acoustic Music Seminar during the Savannah Music Festival in Savannah, Georgia this year. Sixteen young acoustic musicians will be selected for a week long artist development and mentorship program directed by Mike Marshall. "Students workshop their own compositions and arrangements with Marshall as well as clinicians Julian Lage, Moira Smiley and Mike Block, present their work to visiting artists such as Jayme Stone, Molly Tuttle, Natalie Haas, Séamus Egan and Alasdair Fraser, and attend performances from artists as diverse as Toumani Diabaté, Rosanne Case and The Goodbye Girls. For more information on the program and how to apply, visit savannahmusicfestival.org/ams or email education@savannahmusicfestival.org." The deadline to apply is November 15, 2017 at: getacceptd.com/acousticmusicseminar Very best wishes, Moira Legacy students and parents:
We received word that the boots are going on sale this week! Here's the relevant portion of her email: I thought parents may want to know this and not sure if there's a place I can post it, but Target has the Legacy boots on sale this week. Unfortunately, they did not have many in the store, but we have a Target card, so we get free shipping on orders. I'd be willing to order anyone their boots this week or whenever if they give me the money and their shoe size! The cost for them this week (until 10/21) with tax is: $31.04. I also get a discount with my Target card, so even if they aren't on sale, I could still order them cheaper for anyone who'd like me to. Make it a great day, Diane Anderson Thanks Mrs. Anderson! If you would like to order them yourself, here's the link. If you would like her to order them for you, please complete this form. We'll collect the money and Mrs. Anderson will order them next week. I will occasionally post tutorial videos explaining a Music Theory concept on the ToneSavvy website. I will usually post those in Google Classroom, but the first two I made are just meant to help you get logged in to the website and complete your first assignments. Let me know if you have any questions! Mr. Barsch
This year, I'm trying a new process on grading.
I will not be assigning zeros or late penalties because I want each student's grade to reflect their skills and knowledge they are demonstrating in class. Zeros for missed assignments and Late Penalties lower the student's grade artificially and give a confusing view of the student's work. That said, I need an incentive to make sure the students get their work done. If any choir student is missing any assignment, I will switch that student's overall grade to an "Incomplete" until the work is turned in. That work will not be penalized, however. Please let me know if you have any questions! Congrats to the many students that auditioned for ILMEA this past Tuesday. The audition is rigorous and you pushed your music making to new levels to best prepare for this process. All of you are better for performing the audition!
