WIND PLAYERS:
You will be asked to perform scales, one etude and sight-reading. You may choose how fast and which scales to perform - the faster you play the scales accurately, the more points you earn. The more points you earn, the better the chance that you will make a higher band. You may perform the etude at any speed you like, however, you will be assessed a small penalty if you perform it slower than marked.
Sight-reading will be assessed on Sight-Reading Factory. We will assign you a Level 5 Sight-Reading Factory assignment. It will be 16 measures long at QN = 116 and you will have 90 seconds to look at the exercise before you perform. The exercise will be in a minor key. You will only get one attempt at this sight-reading assignment – in other words, you can not self-select an easier exercise or attempt this exercise numerous times until you get it right. You MUST complete this exercise on the day of your audition.
PERCUSSIONISTS:
You will be asked to prepare three short etudes - one for snare drum, one for two-mallet marimba, and one for timpani. You may perform the etude at any speed you like, however, you will be assessed a small penalty if you perform it slower than marked.
Sight-reading will be assessed on Sight-Reading Factory. We will assign you a Level 4 Sight-Reading Factory assignment for Snare Drum It will be 16 measures long at QN = 116 and you will have 90 seconds to look at the exercise before you perform.
